Followed by Social Dancing Monthly
Swing dancing originated as a social dance, and that’s how we like to keep it! Our courses are designed to get you feeling confident social dancing asap! Over a 6-week integrated beginner's course you will learn all the basic steps and fundamental leading/following techniques you need to look and feel great on the dance floor. You don’t need to bring a partner (though it helps if you can!), and flat, comfy shoes are best. No pre-registration is necessary, just turn up on the night.
Beginner’s courses run as 6-week blocks introducing you to Charleston and Lindy Hop (the specific style of swing we do). With an integrated approach, you'll be able to use both steps as building blocks for your dancing and improvising in no time! Once you complete one Beginner's course, you're ready to join the Intermediate course! It’s best if you can make it each week, but if you miss one or two classes – don’t worry! Come back as soon as you can on any night and we’ll catch you up. You can also commence your course in Week 2.
Classes are held at Majura Community Hall, 2 Rosevear Place, Dickson on Thursdays. Classes cost $13 each, or $65 for a 6-Week block. Once you have done the beginners course and decide to stay for multiple classes, you pay no more! $13 covers the whole night, no matter how many classes you do, or you can buy a 10-class pass for $100. The more you swing the more you save!

What's in a Class?
(7.30-8.30pm Tuesdays, Thursdays)
Love the look of Swing but you’ve never taken a dance class? This is where to start! We’ll show you all the basics you need to get you social dancing in no time! Beginner’s blocks start every 6 weeks. No need to bring a partner, we'll rotate in class.
(8.30-9.30pm Tuesdays and Thursdays)
Want to learn moves, styling, technique and more? Expand that dance vocab and feel confident with Intermediate Swing Katz. (For those who have done at least one 6-week beginner’s course).
Advanced Lindy Hop
Been dancing more than a year and ready to ramp it up? Comfy with Swingouts, variations and basic jazz steps, and ready for more technique and a challenge? This class will refine that leading and following, as well as exploring more advanced techniques and moves, musicality, movement and styling. If you've been dancing more than a year, you're welcome to come and try this class, but the level will be kept high.
*New in 2019* Weekly Shag Class
Collegiate Shag is a super-fun, up-tempo dance from the 1930's. It has a history similar to other jazz and swing era dances, such as the Charleston, Lindy Hop, and Balboa and is usually associated with a 6-count basic, quick and flashy footwork and a chugging rhythm. This drop-in class is for you to come to any week and fall in love with Shag.
Monthly Taster Course
Balboa, Shag, Solo Jazz, 20's Charleston - this is the time for all those 'other' vernacular swing-related dances. We'll spend a month on each, cycling through, taking requests having a ball. For those who want to expand their swing vocabulary or just want a bit of fun or more dancing in their week! (We recommend having completed at least 1 6-week beginner's course).
Social Dancing at the Swing Katz Speakeasy
(8.30pm Thursdays Monthly)
Every 3rd Thursday of the month we host a social dance, often with a fun theme! We strive to provide a live band as often as possible. Social dancing is the bomb-diggity! Do it!
Private Lessons and Wedding Dances
